Aural exciter1/6/2024 ![]() An extensive product range encompasses processing (including 500 Series outboard), microphone preamps, audio interfaces, and even a USB microphone ( Microphone X) with built-in Aphex analogue processing - it's that Aural Exciter and Big Bottom thing again! Whether working in the box or out, Aphex has what it takes to enhance your sound. Today it is a wholly owned subsidiary of DWV Entertainment, a spinoff of David Wiener Ventures, yet remains commited to providing the cleanest, clearest, and most effective signal and dynamics processing technologies available for performing, recording, and broadcasting applications - even going as far as catering to those using sound for communication and safety purposes. Times change and Aphex has clearly changed with the times. Another studio device similar to the exciter is the audio. It can help to add extra punch to a whole mix, or it can be used on individual tracks and instruments like vocals, drums, guitars, and bass. In an age of all-singing, all-dancing plug-ins purporting to do everything and more this might not seem like a big deal today, but, believe us, Big Bottom remains as big as it ever was! Truth be told, both Big Bottom and Aural Exciter are available as Avid's AAX Native 64 and AAX DSP 64 plug-in for Pro Tools 11 while Waves' Aphex Vintage Aural Exciter plug-in delivers all the original character of the original hardware. The aural exciter is a great tool to use in the studio if you’re looking to add some high-end clarity and sparkle to your music productions. The former enhances clarity and intelligibility to audio signals by adding phase shift and musically-related synthesized harmonics while the titter-inducing Big Bottom circuit combines a lowpass filter and dynamics processor to compress and delay incoming low-frequency information to create sustained bass frequencies that are perceived as being louder, yet do not noticeably increase peak output. Indeed, the trailblazing Aural Exciter, Big Bottom, and Compeller technologies still form the basis of the present-day Californian company's pro audio and MI products. Strive for a good mix without them, and then maybe try them out to see if they add something special to the track or mix.Aphex is an American audio signal processing equipment manufacturer with notable history, making a long-lasting name for itself as the inventor of sound enhancement. They are little one trick pony toys that are not used too much in fine sounding recordings. The edge they will give you on a good sound is really nice, but their heavy use on bad sounds should be avoided. These kinds of effects work best when used very little on the sound. 100 KVR members have added Aphex Vintage Aural Exciter to 10 My KVR groups 123 times. It functions as a VST Plugin, an Audio Units Plugin, a VST 3 Plugin, an RTAS Plugin and an AAX Plugin. Too often, people "depend" on these kinds of devices to make up for gross deficiencies in their mix, and as Bruce stated, it winds up hurting more then helping. Aphex Vintage Aural Exciter by Waves is a Virtual Effect Audio Plugin for macOS and Windows. Of course there is a tab of eq and limiting applied to this mix too, but again, in moderation. But, both provided an obvious result compared to the original mix. Used the Steinberg Spectralizer for top end enhancement, and the Waves MaxxBass for low end enhancement. This is a mix I mastered last week for a bands demo. I like to play around with these things here and there.
